Honolulu Hawaii Portrait Photographer | Mahea part 1

Jess and I met Mahea soon after moving out here to Hawaii.  I asked Mahea if she would consider modeling for us, which she seemed pretty excited about.  We have been talking about doing this photo shoot for a while now and this past Saturday actually got around to doing it.  Fun, and colorful were the two adjectives that Mahea was going for.  I think we nailed it.

We started out at one of her places of work.  The South Shore Grill.  They make up a mean mix plate, check them out for sure, conveniently located near Waikiki.  Our second location was a fun playground!

Which is your favorite photo?  Know Mahea?  Give her a shout in the comments and tell her what an awesome job she did!  Make sure to check back next week when we dress it up a bit for part 2!  (Click HERE to see part two!)

The One Photography Accessory You DON'T Need!

Mike Shoemaker | Ellicott City, MD

I recently did the tourist thing with our first visitor here in Hawaii.  I saw a lot of cameras during this time.

Here is ONE accessory that you don't need.

Can you guess what it is?

Your LENS CAP!*

But... it protects my lens!

Buy a good uv filter and keep that on your lens at all times.  It will do all the protecting you need.  Here's the uv filters I use.

None of my lenses have lens caps.  As soon as I get a new lens I throw on a good uv filter and put the lens cap in the box.

Lens caps are just one more step between you and the shot that you want!  I remember one of my photography students missing an epic shot of a helicopter taking off because he was fumbling with his lens cap.

With a UV filter, your lens is protected, and you can pick your camera up and shoot instantly.

*I'm writing about lens cap on detachable lenses for DSLRS.

Ready to ditch your lens cap?  Yes or No?  Let us know in the comments.

3 Online Resources To Use When Camera Shopping

My first digital SLR, my 20d served me VERY well for a long time

I regularly get asked by people, "what kind of camera should I buy?"  I addressed some questions that you might want to ask yourself in this post.  -->  3 Questions To Ask Yourself Before Buying a Camera

Here's 3 more good resources to use when camera shopping.

1.  www.dpreview.com  - This is a website where you can do side by side comparisons of different cameras and read in depth hands on reviews.

2.  BHphotovideo.com -  This is my go to website when it comes to buying gear.  Check their prices and read the user reviews of the various cameras you are looking at.

3.  Amazon.com  -  I always try and check to see if Amazon's prices are beating out B&H, sometimes they do, it also opens you up to a new set of user reviews.

What resources have you found valuable while camera shopping?
